Banksy encourages admirers to rob from London fashion powerhouse. Here’s why
Banksy requests that Guess remove his artwork, which is now on display at the London shopfront, after claiming that it was shown without his consent. The mysterious artist called on his 11.5 million Instagram followers to ‘attack’ the Regent Street business, prompting a debate on social media.
Guess has used a giant image of Banksy’s Flower Thrower artwork to promote its current Brandalised collaboration collection.
In response, the Bristol artist posted on Instagram, saying attention all shoplifters please visit the GUESS store on Regent Street. They’ve taken my artwork without asking, so how can it be improper for you to do the same with their clothes?
One person stated that this will not end well for them, while another stated that they have the NERVE to say with graffiti by Banksy.
Guess defines the Brandalised line as a partnership with the world’s most recognized street-graffiti artists that puts your urban vibe to life. Banksy fans were unimpressed with the artist’s assertions regarding the clothing line and expressed their displeasure on social media.
In only one hour, the Instagram post received over 500,000 likes and over 7,000 comments. Banksy has been described as the voice of the modern revolution by one fan, while another has written Shoplifters of the world unite and take over.
